About the Author
Dr. Kathryn F. Porter is Professor of Mathematics at Saint Mary’s College of California, where she has been since 1990. While there, she has held various positions including Coordinator of the Mathematics Preparation Program for future secondary mathematics teachers, Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Director of the Liberal and Civic Studies Program, and Director of Mathematics Readiness. She is currently the Chair of the Undergraduate Educational Policies Committee.
Dr. Porter earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in Mathematics at the University of Delaware and her B.S. in Secondary Education and Mathematics at Slippery Rock University. She has written many research articles in the mathematical area of topology and has served on numerous committees related to mathematics, teaching, and governance. Professor Porter is one of the founders of the highly regarded Teachers for Tomorrow program at Saint Mary’s College, and has advised future elementary and secondary school mathematics teachers throughout her three decades at Saint Mary’s.
Kathryn is the proud mother of two grown children, one a secondary mathematics teacher and the other a musician. Her interests include reading, movies, and sports.
