About the Author

Dr. Kathleen C. Tice is the Program Coordinator for Literacy Studies in the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at the University of Texas at Arlington. She also teaches courses in literacy studies at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Her research has focused upon teacher knowledge development and service-learning in teacher preparation. She has served as the annual conference Program Chair for the Service-Learning & Experiential Education–Special Interest Group of the American Educational Research Association. She is a co-editor of the International Journal of Research on Service-Learning in Teacher Education. Dr. Tice won a 2015 Literacy Grant from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Her teaching awards include the University of Texas System Regents’ Outstanding Teacher Award. She received her master’s degree in reading education from the University of Houston, and earned her Ph.D. in reading and in English/language arts education from the University of Texas at Austin.
